“the cups of tea you forget to drink”

In the series of images, Tea Time, I set to embody the ritual of tea drinking and its significance. Sometimes drinking tea can be very intentional, but a lot of the time, cups of tea are forgotten. It's easy to lose yourself in the flow state of different daily tasks or activities and forget about the cup of tea you just poured yourself. In the series of images, we follow a girl going through different daily tasks, constantly accompanied and supported by the cup of tea. The tea follows the girl throughout her day, bringing her comfort just by being there, even if it's gotten cold. Each photo switches between the perspective of the tea you don’t drink and the activities that pull one’s attention away from drinking the tea. Not only does the sequencing and timing of each photo create a sense of urgency, but the sound of a boiling tea kettle carries the audience through a sensorial experience. I see Tea Time as my love letter to the ritual that is drinking tea.
